What’s Cookin’: Best Snacks for a Breaking Bad Party
Is there anything more wholesome than enjoying a delicious meal between family and friends? Unless, of course, you are “breaking bread” in the Breaking Bad style (and sitting down with Walter White)! In that case… your dinner is probably gonna suck. A Breaking Bad family dinner is filled with awkward passive aggressive silences, unspoken accusations, and a DEA brother-in-law glaring at you from across the table.
If you’re a fan of the popular television series (which follows the story of the mild-mannered Chemistry teacher, Walter, as he becomes the ruthless crime lord Heisenberg) you’re no stranger to tense situations. You probably thrive on the high anxiety and you just can’t wait for the upcoming sequel El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie to head back to the seedy underbelly of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
And, what do you need in high-stress situations? SNACKS! We may not be able to promise you a relaxing evening while watching El Camino, but we can at least offer you tasty snacks (to nervously chomp on while watching the drama unfold) with this Breaking Bad-inspired menu!
1) Between a Rock and a Sweet Place: Blue Rock Candy
Although we don’t recommend that you actually cook the infamous Blue Sky meth in your grandmother’s kitchen for this party, we still think you should have something to celebrate Walter White’s special blue concoction!
It’s going to be 99.1% pure fun, we promise. ThoughtCo. offers the perfect Breaking Bad “meth” recipe here:
Ingredients
3-3/4 cups sugar
1-1/4 cups light corn syrup
What To Do
1) Grease a cookie sheet. You can use butter, shortening, or non-stick spray.
2) Stir the sugar, corn syrup, and water together in a pan over medium heat.
3) Bring the mixture to a boil and continue boiling for 3 minutes.
4) Stir in food coloring and flavoring, if desired.
1 cup water
blue food coloring
1/2 to 1 teaspoon flavoring, such as vanilla, lemon, or cherry flavoring
5) Increase the temperature to 300 °F. The goal is to melt the sugar and harden the candy, but not brown it. Once the mixture reaches the temperature, remove the pan from heat.
6) Pour the hot mixture onto the greased cookie sheet (be careful, it’s very hot)!
7) Allow the crystals to cool completely. Break the crystals into pieces.
2) Yo, Gatorade Me, Bitch.
Jesse hates cleaning lab equipment, but he loves getting to drink Gatorade after doing it. So, go ahead and “Gatorade [the party], bitch.” Plus, with all that nervous crying and stress sweating you’ll be doing while watching El Camino, you’ll probably need some Gatorade to replenish your electrolytes.
3) Funyuns Are Awesome
Jesse Pinkman may not be a connoisseur of great flavors, but there’s one thing that he knows and that is: “Funyuns are awesome.” So, who cares if Walter White makes fun of Jesse’s 3 bags of Funyuns (he’s just a hater anyway) because you are sure to be the star of the party if you bring these tasty chips along!
4) Welcome to Gardunos: Table-Side Guacamole & Margaritas
Walter might not be able to smooth things over at an awkward family dinner at Garduno’s Mexican restaurant, but he can somehow resist the waiter’s offer of margaritas and table-side guacamole. We think if he had just said “yes” to the tasty drinks and appetizers, then the dinner might have gone better! Margaritas and guac can fix everything, right? Don’t miss out on these tasty snacks at your Breaking Bad party to help break the tension. Trade in your water glass for a margarita on the rocks!
5) “One Taste, and You'll Know": Fried Chicken
There’s no question that every Breaking Bad party needs to have fried chicken (in honor of drug kingpin Gus’ restaurant, Los Pollos Hermanos). Gus’ restaurant might have been a front for a meth ring, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t have delicious chicken too. Heisenberg may blow up Gus… but at least the fried chicken recipe lives on!
6) Pizza Frisbee
In honor of Venezia's Pizzeria from the series, every Breaking Bad party must have an unsliced pizza pie! We don’t care what kind of pizza toppings it has, as long as it can be used as a Frisbee and thrown on top of your roof during a really exciting part of the movie.
7) Bacon, Breakfast, and Birthdays
Not only does Walt Jr. love breakfast, but Walter White’s famous birthday breakfast is always his age shaped by bacon strips on a plate of eggs or potatoes. Not only should every party have breakfast food anyway (because, well, waffles), but every Breaking Bad party NEEDS to have breakfast foods to honor the Walt Jr. breakfast memes and the infamous bacon birthday dishes! Also, did we mention waffles?
