1) If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
2 years ago I had the opportunity to stay in California for 6 months. It’s probably the most cliche place one could pick, but that’s where I’d go. The weather, food, beaches and national parks are just hard to beat.
2) What is creativity to you?
Basically seeing things from a different perspective, or combining seemingly unrelated things to create something new. True inspiration is very rare though, whenever I find something that inspires me, I immediately write it down, so I don’t forget it. I don’t think however that you have to be an artist to be creative, anybody can think and act creatively.
3) Is there an artist/piece of art that you can’t live without?
An illustrator named Gregory Manchess has been on the top of my list for quite some time, his craftsmanship is simply amazing. In general I think it would be a very boring world without art and also music, books and films.
4) If you had a time machine, what art period would you travel to? Why?
Definitely renaissance, I’d hang with Leonardo da Vinci. I like that he was not only an artist, but also an inventor.
5) Do you know what your finished art piece will be, before you begin?
I tend to believe that I do, when I start, but most of the time the piece turns out very differently.
6) What do you do when you are experiencing a mental block to creating art?
Mental block is my default mode I’d say. I’ve been a professional artist/designer for a decade now and unfortunately you can’t afford to only work when you’re inspired. So having a good workflow in place is key I’d say. I also try to limit myself to a certain topic or style. It’s counter-intuitive but limitation helps a great deal to be creative.
7) Do you have funny/unique rituals in your creative process?
At least none that I’m aware of.
8) What creative people do you admire?
In general I admire kind, grateful, hardworking, smart and thoughtful people, if they happen to be creative as well that’s even better.
9) What is the ultimate message you would like to convey with your art?
To stay positive and not to take everything so serious. I’m not a fan of forced positivity but focusing on the positive and finding solutions instead of seeing problems, is the more rational thing in my opinion.
