Featured Artist: Zeichenbloq
If you find yourself crawling through the day with a pounding headache, then you might just need to take a trip to ZeichenbloQ’s DBH store. This week’s Featured Artist offers his audience the perfect escape with soothing watercolors, pristine natural landscapes, and designs that hum with a sense of tranquility and calm.
ZeichenbloQ, or Sebastian Grafmann, is a 38-year-old artist living in Berlin, Germany. Sebastian loves the bustling city life but confesses, “as a big city boy I kind of miss nature” as well. Consequently, nature plays a prominent role in his artwork and it has become a “counterweight to the loud and fast urban lifestyle” that he experiences living in Berlin.
Although he considers himself a “media focused person” with interests like movies, music, and books, his primary inspiration for art continues to be the natural world like “mountains, landscapes, [and] exotic animals.”
He prefers capturing the natural world with traditional mediums like watercolors, inks, and acrylics because — to him — the gritty realness or the “happy little accidents” are what make art truly unique and beautiful.
ZeichenbloQ understands that an artist’s creative journey can be difficult and “hard to really feel/see your own progress. Not every piece you create is a masterpiece and sometimes you feel kind of stuck.”
However, when he experiences a mental block, he begins a new project because the important thing is to simply “keep creating” and push onward. He thinks that “creativity is the fundamental human ability that drives us” and it pushes us to improve ourselves every day.
He does not consider there is a “real final goal to reach” in his creative journey; instead he wants to continue to evolve as an artist and “constantly improve” over time. Nonetheless, his greatest accomplishment so far has been “going public with my art. It feels incredibly rewarding and satisfying when people recognize and support your work.”
