Featured Artist: Asitha
DBH artist Asitha offers his audience an “escape [from] the hassle of daily routine and paperwork” by presenting them with a parade of endearing characters. Whether it’s a small robot caring for a metallic flower, or a smiling full Moon stealing a hug in the night sky, each design is an introduction to a new friend who has an undeniable charm.
Asitha’s artwork is a perfect blend of the adorable meeting the abstract; it’s a place where both intricate mandalas and lovable characters are welcome. His designs cannot help but make audiences ready to forget their daily hassles and restore their peace of mind.
Asitha is a 37-year-old Art Educator from Gampaha, Sri Lanka who experiments with “creating art” in his free time. He loves working with different mediums – from newer digital tools to more traditional ones like paper and pencil – and he admits, “I still haven’t found a personal style which I would like to hold on to.”
He appreciates all styles of art from surreal to abstract and he is always eager to learn new techniques. He is currently working on a project “that addresses social and environmental issues.” However, he cannot help but believe that his greatest artistic achievement is still “yet to come.”
As a full-time teacher, he finds that his greatest obstacle to being an artist is simply a lack of time. He believes that “creativity is something that is hidden inside every human being.” However, he must first find the time to allow his inner “creator” to emerge. Still, he finds that simple things like “nature, animals, and love” can always inspire him or he uses “spontaneous sparks” to guide him to his next project.
One of his favorite things about being an artist and working with Design By Humans is when he receives an email notification alerting him to one of his designs being purchased halfway across the world.
He loves the idea that he has “touched someone's mind through my craft.” He also reminds other artists that “you should not aim for perfection, but for the feeling” that art evokes once it is complete.
