Take an evening stroll through a forest of neon trees with the DBH artist team, LiartesStudio. Each design allows us to see nature anew; it’s like witnessing a world that has come alive under a full moon and has been filled with glowing colors and nocturnal creatures. The Brazilian sisters, 28-year-old Rafaela and 31-year-old Layane, of LiartesStudio invite us to take a walk with them through this glowing night.
The sisters – from Teresina in the Brazilian state of Piauí – reveal that they love creating their art together. They share that their style is inspired by Japanese culture, as well as “the curiosity to explore themes about the universe, nature and even everyday life situations.” Although they can help each other through creative lulls, they still experience mental blocks and difficulties even as a team. They admit, “self-criticism sometimes gets in the way of our creative process” and they must remind themselves that an art piece they are unhappy with, could be “pleasing to someone else.”
Rafaela and Layane work to create designs that feel different and surprising to others. They strive to “think outside the box” and turn the “ordinary into something extraordinary.” To them, art is not only a chance to support themselves professionally but also, more importantly, it is an opportunity for “freedom of speech.” They encourage other artists to “not give up on your creations” because pursuing art is a precious gift that gives artists the power to speak their minds and express themselves to the world.
