DBH artist MuloPops’ quirky colorful designs are both compelling and irresistible. Whether you relish his bold bright graphics – like the one with aliens landing in search of ramen – or you simply want to know more about the adorable characters, each design offers its viewer a distraction or an escape from the real world. MuloPops’ graphics are filled with a sense of excitement, a joy in simple pleasures, and the draw of a place filled with new adventures and the unknown.
MuloPops, or Mulyana Yusup, is a 30-year-old illustrator and graphic designer from Jakarta, Indonesia. His art is self-described as a “pop color style, retro, with a surreal and nostalgic concept.” He admits that he is heavily influenced by the retro comics of his childhood, as well as the cultures and histories of his country and the surrounding regions.
Fortunately for MuloPops, he does not find it difficult to focus on his creative process; he always has new ideas and projects to focus on. However, he jokes that his greatest weakness is an addiction to social media and says, “it is undeniable, social media applications take up our time right now LOL.” He shares that he must actively resist the urge to go online when he is mid-project.
In the future, MuloPops hopes to expand his art community and share his art with the world. He believes that creativity should be about the ability to “express ourselves freely, without any pressure from anyone and anything.” In fact, if he had one piece of advice to give to other artists, he would tell them to “keep exploring” and never lose that spark of excitement that comes with sharing new creations with the world.
