Ghostsonly, aka Joji Grim, is a 28-year-old artist living in New Hampshire, U.S.A. He shares that his ghost-inspired designs began when he transitioned his art from a photorealistic style to a more animated one that kept “some aspects of realism in there!” He laughs that his art is “Claude Monet's attempt at making Studio Ghibli art.”
For him, “creativity is being able to bring your imagination to life.” He finds inspiration for his ghostly designs on morning walks; he takes polaroid photos of nature scenes and sketches over the photos with gel pens. His flowy whimsical spirits are the perfect juxtaposition to the beautiful backdrop of warm soft colors and exquisite snapshots of nature.
He admits that he is critical of his work and has trouble “knowing when to stop.” Thus, he has adopted an “hour of winding down” when he pushes himself to spend just one more hour working on a design. This final hour is spent making small tweaks or even completely reworking the design.
His greatest accomplishment, so far, is having his art featured in an art gallery in the popular town of Provincetown, Massachusetts. He admits that although it wasn’t anything “in the grand scheme of things” it was still a “great experience for me and gave me the push to start sharing my art more.” He loves sharing his designs and his ultimate hope is that he can create something that people enjoy. However, he also jokes that he’d love to “create a design that is appealing enough that Kanye West wears it someday.” Although he doesn’t consider himself an ardent Kanye fan, he still finds himself hoping to reach this fun goal.
