Featured Artist: Nurrablake
Who’s yeti for some “cute dark art” from this week’s Featured Artist Nurrablake? You are! Nurrablake’s delightful designs hint at the philosophy of yin and yang by portraying darker themes – whether it’s a monster or a ghost in the afterlife – in a way that highlights the lighthearted and “cute” nature hidden within the vision. The combination of dark and light shows how contradictory themes can sometimes create a perfect balance. If you’re looking for the cutest Yeti around or you just can’t get enough of the “Furyin & Furyang” design, Nurrablake is sure to have what you need!
The artist Nurrablake is living in Jakarta, Indonesia and confesses that “all things art related make me happy.” He jokes that his happiness can shine through in his art and when he draws darker themes the “results even look cute” sometimes. However, he embraces every “cute” element because he recognizes that an artist must be true to their own style; he asserts that every artist must create for themselves and draw art that makes them happy. In fact, his creative goal is to always design “something that I can enjoy first.”
As a perfectionist, one of his greatest obstacles can be his “mood” or his motivation to find the “perfect” idea. He has learned that the best thing he can do is to simply “let it flow without forcing it.” He encourages other artists to “know yourself first” and follow an inner guide because “each of us is different and because each one of us is special.”
