Featured Artist: Heavyhand

Blast off with DBH artist Heavyhand and leave the world behind. This week’s Featured Artist enlists his audience on a mission through time and space for the chance to experience exploration at its most beautiful. As you watch the Earth disappear into a tiny blue dot from your shuttle window, you’ll find yourself surrounded by new planets, unusual lifeforms, and the overwhelming sense that you’re not in Kansas anymore!

Heavyhand is a graphic designer and illustrator from South West, London who is inspired by “space, sci-fi, robots, nature, Earth, and minimalism.” Although he often gravitates towards sci-fi themes with a minimalistic touch, he admits that his style is still “an ongoing process” that continues to evolve every day. Like many artists, he struggles with finding the time to pursue his creative passions and is mastering the juggling act between work, life, and creative projects. He jokes that he’s just “keeping calm and carrying on” as best he can. However, he shares that he always has a notepad nearby so that he can record any inspiration “before an idea slips away!”

Not only does exploration play a large role thematically in Heavyhand’s art, but he also considers creativity to be a type of exploration as well. He says, “my ideas might traverse into something different but I enjoy the exploration.” He believes that the creative world is a place filled with unexplored concepts and soon-to-be discovered ideas; artists are fellow explorers in search of a new world. In fact, he loves platforms like DBH because it allows him to connect with “all the other designs out in the cosmos.”
