Featured Artist: Staceyroman
Have you ever wondered where butterflies sleep, if they have hobbies, or if — like you — they enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning? This week’s Featured Artist thinks about it all the time! Our DBH Artist of the Week, or StaceyRoman, finds that “quiet, everyday moments” spark her curiosity and lead to “little stories” — like if butterflies drink coffee — that become her heartwarming designs. Whether you need a boost of confidence (yes, you are majestic AF like this aptly named cat design!) or want an adventure to the moon, this week’s artist has you covered!
Stacey shares that in addition to art, she loves traveling, powerlifting, basketball, and spending time with her dogs, BB-8 and Finn (Star Wars, so cute). She admits that it feels like her “whimsical and cute” art style is only something that she discovered using a “trial and error” process over time, but that she has always gravitated towards “anything that I think would make [people] laugh.” She strongly believes that artists should cut themselves “some slack” and not worry about making their artwork perfect. In fact, she believes that imperfections in art are “where the human shines through.”
Stacey says that art is an extremely personal and intimate process for her. She believes it is an “essence of yourself, whatever is deep in the pocket of your heart” and that sharing art is an act of bravery. Stacey reveals that while her father was battling lung cancer, she sent him hand-painted cards with messages of encouragement every day to “help keep his spirits up.” Today, she not only continues to share “art in his honor” to navigate her grief after his passing, but also because it reminds her of the “fulfilling and beautiful” connection humans share together.
She confesses that she used to be nervous about telling people she was an artist because “art feels like such a sacred thing to share.” However, now she appreciates the way that art can brighten someone’s day and how it allows her to connect with people on a deeper level.
