Q: Where are you from? A: I am from Phoenix, Arizona!
Q: How would you best describe your art style? A: I would describe my art style as simple but silly and fun. Q: Where do you find your inspiration when creating your art? A: I gather inspiration from things I like or use in my day to day such as coffee, jean jackets or pizza (obviously!). I've also been fascinated with mystical things lately which has been a huge inspiration in my work lately.
Q: When did you know you wanted to make a career in the art world? A: I've known from a very young age that I wanted to be an artist. Unfortunately I shifted my attention away from art when I reached college because so many people would tell me that I couldn't make a living as an artist. However, it didn't take long for me to drop out of ASU and make the switch to an art school. BEST decision ever!
Q: What does a day of creating artwork look like for you and how to you start your creative process? A: I struggle working from home because I get so distracted, so I usually start the day going to a coffee shop. I think it's also important to find a good station on Pandora to get the good vibes flowing! I also make little checklists throughout the week anytime I feel like I'm starting to get overloaded with work to keep me on task. I'm constantly thinking of little ideas for illustrations so I type them down in my notes on my iPhone, and then when I'm ready to devote some time to creating, I open those up and go from there!
Q: What artist (either current or past) do you most admire and why? A: I admire Tuesday Bassen. She is killing it! I love that she kind of started from the bottom and has become such a huge success. Talk about major girl power. She even has her own shop now, and that's something I would love to do someday.
Q: What's the best advice that's been given to you as an artist? A: I would say the best advice I've been given is to welcome every opportunity that comes your way. At least when you're starting out as an artist or designer and you don't have a lot to show for your portfolio, it's a great way of creating things you might not have thought you were capable of. You can also make awesome connections and network with some great people!
