Let yourself sink into the swirling colors and startling depth of DajonAcevedo’s world. This week’s Featured Artist invites us into a magical space decorated by soft pastels and filled with unexpected details; whether it’s the shifting expression of a goldfish, the disconcerting glance from a cat bat, or a butterfly concealed within a portrait, each design is like stumbling upon a secret hidden just for you.

DajonAcevedo is a 29-year-old artist from the Mississippi Gulf Coast region. She reveals that her style is not “super developed and is forever changing.” Still, she is excited about her creative journey and is looking to find a style or medium that is hers alone. Her work is inspired by daydreams, fantasy, and stories and she loves the idea of expanding her work and making freelance art her future. She admits, “my art can come off a little melancholy at times but maybe that’s the point? Magical, dreamy, and moody.” She considers her main motivation to bring the world of fantasy and magic to life and to “touch the viewer on a deeper level.” Her dreamy designs make her audience feel like they’ve stepped into a world with secrets behind every door.

DajonAcevedo – like many artists – struggles with feelings about her own work. She admits, “I think sometimes it is really hard for me to love my own art.” However, she pushes to keep creating and reminds herself that even if she feels insecure about a piece, it deserves a chance to be seen. She understands that even though it may not be her most “amazing” work that it is “still art and can still be enjoyed” by others. Not only does she constantly remind herself to push forward, but she also urges other artists to “just keep creating” and not feel discouraged because “art can be all consuming and it will burn us out if we allow it.”
