Featured Artist: Noeldelmar
This week’s Featured Artist Kico León, aka Noeldelmar, appreciates the simple joys in life. He admits to liking activities that “everyone likes” such as spending time with his friends, watching films, and enjoying nature. Still, the 35-year-old artist from the Andalucía region of Spain also understands that – although his hobbies are easy to explain – his art style is not as easily defined.
He says, “I don’t really know if I have an art style”; in fact, he reflects upon his designs being the meeting point between different worlds. His bright and eclectic style is a montage of anime, manga, and classic art inspired by icons like Alphonse Mucha, Claude Monet, or Utagawa Hiroshige.
However, the desire to tell a story through his art has become the unifying theme in his diverse repertoire. He studied photography and videography and this encourages him to capture a cohesive story with a beginning, middle, and end; his art can tell a whole story in just one frame. Whether it’s a peek out a window into an unknown world or a brief glimpse of a solitary windy day, each design is a perfect snapshot of a moment in time.
Noeldelmar insists that patience and hard work are the two most important elements of any creative project. He believes that you must have patience to tell a story through your art, but you must also have patience with yourself. He jokes that he’s “still working on patience” for himself though. However, he feels he is “learning something new basically every day” and he loves watching his style change. His hope is to simply continue to “get better day by day” and he looks forward to the opportunity to share something new with the world.
