Do you hear the thump of an electronic heartbeat? Listen closely and you’ll hear the sounds of this week’s Featured Artist Arthiologicstudio’s store.
The bright designs – which pulsate with neon colors like purple and turquoise – highlight animals that are both familiar and unfamiliar to the audience. The geometric designs reveal creatures that belong both to the technological world and the natural world. Follow the sounds of the electronic heartbeat to discover where nature meets tech in this futuristic place.
Arthiologicstudio, or Arif Purnomo, is a 26-year-old illustrator from the South Sumatra Province of Indonesia. His unique style was born in a moment of inspiration while watching the popular anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion. He shares, “there is a part in the animation that gave me the idea to create this style” and he has never looked back. Today, he thinks fondly on how a small spark of an idea grew into his own distinct style. He reminds other artists that to find their style they must “keep working, consistency is the key.”
He jokes that he struggles with “laziness” but that his fellow artists and professional mentors are his inspiration and give him the “passion to keep working.” He confesses that when he sees their amazing artwork, he cannot help but feel motivated to create something beautiful as well. To him, creativity is a “sense of satisfaction” in having created something new to share with the world.
He considers his greatest artistic achievement to be when his work is transformed into something “useful” in the world, whether it is a t-shirt on someone’s back or a framed art print on someone’s wall. In fact, he hopes to continue his creative pursuits by starting a studio to “work with like-minded people” for the chance to keep transforming his art into something useful for the world.
