Featured Artist Kingnamu
If you’ve ever seen the world through a funhouse mirror, then you know what to expect with this week’s Featured Artist Kingnamu. See the world through a lens that perfectly captures every detail, yet offers an unexpected twist that leaves you studying every design with surprise and delight.
Each piece — so lifelike that you cannot help but imagine yourself face-to-face with a woman shaped by flowers — is a chance to experience Kingnamu’s surreal DBH Store.
The fun-loving Kingnamu, or Peter Dlana, is from the bustling metropolis of Manila in the Republic of the Philippines. His style is influenced by his time as a tattoo artist and he is “fascinated by line art and blackwork tattoos.”
He says “my art is a reflection of the things [...] in my everyday life.” For instance, he is studying the works of famous philosophers like Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, and Sartre. He teases that his understanding is only “scratches from the surface of their works” but their unique perspectives greatly influences his desire to approach art with a fresh outlook of his own. He believes that art is about “vulnerability and being authentic at the same time” and being true to his emotions. His greatest hope is to become a full-time artist and pursue art as a career in the future.
Peter encourages other artists to “enjoy the process, be patient, and always give your best shot in any work you do.” He jokes that his greatest accomplishment, so far, is this DBH Featured Artist showcase because “this is my first time being interviewed about my work lol. Thanks.” DBH is excited to be a part of his artistic journey and can’t wait to see what comes next! Thank you, Kingnamu!
