Q) Where are you from?
I’m from Madrid, Spain.
Q) How would you best describe your art style?
My art is all digital. It’s a colorful and fantastic style with weird and surreal elements. I love using saturated color palettes and whimsical compositions.
Q) Where do you find your inspiration when creating your art?
That’s easy! I’m always daydreaming. There’s always some story going on in my head. I also love reading science fiction books and listening to some good heavy metal music. But almost anything can trigger my creative process.
Q) When did you know you wanted to make a career in the art world?
It was unexpected! Growing up I was never interested in art outside the Arts & Crafts classes in school. I started doodling on the edges of my textbooks when I was 14 as a way to escape the boredom. As other careers didn’t interest me, I began to study Graphic Design and Etching techniques. Soon it was clear that my thing was illustration but it wasn’t until two years ago when I decided my art was good enough to try and make a living out of it.
Q) How does art impact your day to day life or your impression of the world as a whole?
I use art to escape reality, it’s a world of my own making that I can actually control. Everything else it’s shrouded in uncertainty.
Q) What does a day of creating artwork look like for you and how to you start your creative process?
When I have an idea I have to get it out as soon as possible! Before I sit down to draw I already have a very specific idea of the composition, theme and color of the illustration. I don’t have an sketchbook and if possible I don’t use any kind of references, my art goes directly from my brain to the computer. Although the process can be totally random too, there are times where I start drawing with nothing in mind, merely scribbling until I see something in the lines.
Also I like to finish my illustrations the same day I start them, if not, they end up lost forever in that void that is the Work in Progress folder.
Q) When you're not creating, what do you like to do with your time?
Nothing special, I have simple pleasures. I spend most of my free time playing video games, reading books and watching movies.
Q) What artist (either current or past) do you most admire and why?
Two come to mind; the first is William Joyce. I like his creative art style and the fact that he’s a multidisciplinary artist, being a writer, illustrator and filmmaker all at once.
Matt Nava, concept artist and art director of video games like Journey and Abzû. Creator of that masterpiece which it’s Journey, one of my favorite games. If only I could create something of such beauty and concept!
Q) What's the best advice that's been given to you as an artist?
"Never sell yourself short, value your art”
