Where are you from?

Hello! I grew up in a small beach town called Tea Gardens, near Newcastle, on the east coast of Australia.

How would you describe your art style?

My art style has many different descriptions, as it somewhat changes depending on my mood! Although I always focus on black and white work, and fine detail. Sometimes I will draw intricate mandalas and symmetrical patterns and images, and other times I will draw traditional tattoo-like style images.

Where do you find your inspiration?

I am very inspired by the tattoo world, and often spend hours looking at other artists work either on Instagram or Pinterest, or it could be a tattoo on someone I see walking down the street!

When did you know you wanted to make a career in the art world?

I see my artworks as more of a therapeutic hobby, I currently go to University full time studying Sociology, so whenever I get spare time from study I draw as much as I can. I always loved art and drawing since I was very young, but it was after I finished high school that I found my passion for it and discovered I loved blackwork and dotwork.

How does art Impact your everyday life, or your impression of the world as whole?

Back to tattoos again, I find that tattoos as a form of art is the most amazing way to express yourself. I myself have 11 tattoos and I find that they give me a sense of identity, and when I see others with tattoos I feel like it tells a story about them, which is lovely.

What does a day of creating artwork look like for you and how do you start your creative process?

Amongst all my Uni papers and books I have my little light box on my desk, I usually crank up some music and just let the ideas come to me! With my mandalas it usually can go anywhere, the ideas and details come as the mandala gets bigger. Or sometimes I’ll have a very specific image in mind that I want to do, in that case I usually do a few small sketches and the ideas just flow.

When you’re not creating, what do you like to do with your time?

Apart from University, I’m very much into fitness, so I love being active and going to the gym. Catching up with friends or seeing a movie, lounge around watching Netflix!

What artist (either current or past) do you most admire and why?

I have always been inspired by Hannah Pixie Snowdon, a tattoo artist from the UK, apart from the fact that she is a gorgeous woman, her dotwork art is incredible and her tattoo skill is amazing. She is overall just an inspiring woman with her charity work and positive outlook on life.

What’s the best advice that’s been given to you as an artist?

Basically don’t force yourself to create/draw something. I occasionally have ‘drawing-block’ and can go a week or two without drawing something, and I would beat myself up about it and get frustrated. Art and creativity aren’t things that can be forced, otherwise it becomes a burden and you may end up resenting the whole process, so take it as it comes and let things flow 😊
