DBH: Where are you from?
MK: I’m from Greece, born and raised in Germany! Currently, I work and live in Athens!
DBH: How would you best describe your art style?
MK: It's difficult for me to describe it! It has always depended on my mood and ideas! I usually describe it as abstract, with a sense of retro & vintage.
DBH: Where do you find your inspiration when creating your art?
MK: I can be inspired from everything around me, the city, the streets, the people, old books, the internet, from various art styles and artwork from older artists.
DBH: When did you know you wanted to make a career in the art world?
MK: As long as I remember my self I always held a pencil in my hand and wanted to draw something; everything that could create a beautiful picture in my mind. After high-school I studied architecture, a creative field by using the mechanics of nature, but in the end prevailed my love for design and the illustration of my ideas. Therefore, today I work for a publishing house in Athens illustrating educational books for children! I also love to do my own stuff and try different creative fields like Graphic Design, Video and Photography!
DBH: How does art impact your day to day life or your impression of the world as a whole?
MK: This is definitely an intriguing question. Art is a way to blow of steam from a difficult day. Drawing helps me to keep my mind and soul clear from all the negativity around me, to see a positive side of the current state of the whole society and for a moment to forget and travel to my own perfect and peaceful world.
DBH: What does a day of creating artwork look like for you and how to you start your creative process?
MK: Unfortunately, is not every day a creative one! I don't push my self to create something, I design when I am ready for it, when I feel it! Sometimes, ideas flowing out of my head and then I make quick pencil sketches in order not to forget them!
DBH: When you're not creating, what do you like to do with your time?
MK: I don't have a lot of spare time, therefore I love spending it to be a good daddy and to change a lot of diapers!
DBH: What artist (either current or past) do you most admire and why?
MK: I admire a lot of artists, but my favorite is Heinrich Kley! In my opinion he's one underestimated artist! So its a shame not to mention him !
DBH: What's the best advice that's given to you as an artist?
MK: Create your own style! The hardest part is to find and follow a unique style that expresses yourself! I love to experiment and use different kind of styles and materials! I have not exactly determine my style yet, but I'm searching for it!
