Featured Artist Update: Littleclyde
In a world that makes you behave like a responsible adult and wear an uncomfortable scratchy suit to work, balance your checkbook, or eat a kale salad for lunch, it can be normal to crave a visit to the world of the whimsical instead! Head into the imagination of this week’s returning Featured Artist Littleclyde for the chance to travel back to your childhood. Magical creatures like a unicorn, a jackalope, and a Sasquatch are ready to welcome you to a place where anything is possible. Abandon your responsibilities (at least for today!) to follow that hidden path into the forest with Littleclyde’s watercolor designs to rediscover adventures from your childhood.
The longtime DBH artist Littleclyde, or Michelle, returns to the spotlight to share her latest developments as an artist. The Hawaiian illustrator is still living in the creative mecca of Berlin, Germany with her family. Her emphasis on watercolor art has continued to develop; presently, she is experimenting with analog techniques in her new “Tiny Creatures” series “where the bulk of the piece is painted in detailed watercolor (but then digitally collaged) and the highlighted creature is a flat black and white illustration.” In addition, she has enjoyed exploring her art with projects like a NFT collaboration with Truffles Studio or designing a dragon-inspired children's craft kit.
She confesses that although she has always loved to doodle, it wasn’t until she began selling her artwork and finding success on platforms like DBH that she “started feeling more comfortable with referring to [herself] as an actual artist.” Today, she admits that it can be difficult to find time to create in a world full of responsibilities. She says, “life takes over sometimes and then the creative part takes a backseat for a while.” Still, her mantra is: “do more! Don't worry so much about perfection, just produce produce produce” and she tries to heed this advice as often as possible.
