Featured Artist Update: ECMazur
If you capture nature in all its intricate beauty and add a touch of the unusual, then you have this week’s Featured Artist ECMazur. Our Featured Artist of the Week has been a member of the DBH community for years; she returns to the spotlight to share recent developments and accomplishments in her life as an artist.
Her designs – like an avocado with the moon as its center or an alligator king so lifelike that you imagine him in the Everglades on a throne – are the chance to lose yourself in magical realism. So, fall in love with nature – with a twist of magic – with ECMazur’s beautifully detailed illustrations today!
ECMazur, or Ella, is now a 33-year-old designer living in Toronto, Canada. Since her last interview, she has followed her passion for drawing and become a full-time artist. She jokes, “since I have my dream job, I like working too much!” Now – instead of sitting in her office job daydreaming about what she will draw in her free hours – she spends her time pursing art professionally. She teases, “Mondays are now my favorite day” of the week because she can return to her love of drawing after a weekend away.
In the past, she used ballpoint pen almost exclusively in her art; however, she recently switched to using archival inks like Rapidograph pens instead. She loves that this new medium – with the smaller finer tips – allows her to capture even more detail and layering in her work.
In addition to illustration, she loves to challenge herself with creative pursuits like theater, dancing, and writing as well. In fact, she shares that it is currently “mural season” in Toronto and that she is looking forward to working outside and creating art for the public. She also confesses that she is starting to share her other creative projects, but that it is “scarier than sharing my visual art.” Still, she is excited about “bringing all the different parts of me together and getting to explore my different creative inclinations!”
She encourages other artists with the sentiment: “Sometimes it feels like we are not making progress, but when you look back, you can see how far you've come. Remind yourself of your progress and celebrate yourself often!”
